Context:
In 2016, it was the sixth year of the long-lasting Syrian crisis, resulting in more than 13,5 million people in need of humanitarian support. Nearly 70% of Syrian population was accessing water from medium to high-risk sources, and repair of the water infrastructure was identified by the Humanitarian Need Overview as one of the three main needs in moving towards recovery.
Project Goal:
Contribute towards reduced suffering and water related illnesses among vulnerable host and IDP population in Homs and Rural Damascus in Syria.
Implementation and results:
- A total of 20 100 persons gained better access to clean drinking water thanks to equipping one water well in Homs as well as thanks to rehabilitation of an old central water storage tank in Rural Damascus.
- A total of 161 vulnerable households in Rural Damascus received water storage tanks or small scale household repair support.
- A total of 55 persons with disabilities were provided with items aimed to increase dignity in everyday activities, access to water and sanitary facilities and increasing mobility within their home.
