Hassan lost his entire family to the war in Syria. With our help, he has opened his own shop

The civil war in Syria has taken almost everything from Hassan Al Khaled. The bombing of Idlib killed his entire family, and Hassan himself lost his left leg, so he can only get around with the help of crutches. Thanks to an educational course from Caritas Czech Republic, Hassan opened his own small electronics shop and found new hope in life.

The war in Syria began 10 years ago. Since then, it has driven millions out of their homes, whether out of Syria or within the country. According to UN OCHA, 2.7 million internally displaced people live in north-eastern Syria, 1.6 million of them in refugee camps. Caritas Czech Republic has been working in Syria since 2013 and this year will help young people with livelihood.

What future for Syrians in Turkey?

Education is one of the key challenges for the Syrian refugees living in Turkey. Since the war began in 2011, 3 million refugees have come to Turkey. Half of them are children. Initially, those who could afford it sent their children to Syrian-curriculum private schools. Now it’s possible for their children to go to Turkish schools. Read more on caritas.org.
